Mehrangarh and Jaisalmer Fort are the two best forts in Rajasthan and are almost opposites: one a military object that was never taken, the other a walled town that people still live inside and whose drains are slowly dissolving it.
Both get real time and a guide who can explain what you are looking at. The desert night at the end is the palate cleanser.

Jaisalmer Fort and the dunes

The fort at seven, before the gates fill, then the havelis. Out to the dunes in the afternoon for a camel ride and a night under canvas.

Breakfast on the sand and onward transfer.
