The difference between a good sunset in the Thar and a mediocre one is almost entirely timing, and most operators get it wrong by thirty minutes. We leave Jaisalmer so that you are mounted and moving by the time the light turns, which gives you the whole of the long gold hour on the sand rather than the tail of it.
After the ride there is tea and something fried on the dune, and a pair of Manganiar musicians who play because that is their trade, not because a programme says so. Then the drive back, which in winter is cold enough that you will want the jacket we tell you to bring.
