Jodhpur and Jaisalmer are the two ends of western Rajasthan and 285 kilometres apart, which is one long drive or one very good day depending on how you use it. This itinerary uses it — the road runs past Osian's temples and through Bishnoi country, and there is no reason to do it in one sitting.
Two nights in Jodhpur, two in Jaisalmer, one of them on the dunes. Everything is private, and the pace assumes you would rather see three things properly than seven badly.

Day 1
Arrive Jodhpur
Overnight in Jodhpur
Met at the airport or station and taken to your hotel. Late afternoon walk through the old city below the fort, finishing at the clock tower market as it fills up.
Day 2
Mehrangarh and the blue city
Overnight in Jodhpur
Mehrangarh at opening, before the tour groups, with a guide who can explain what the fort was defending against. Jaswant Thada afterwards, then the blue lanes of Navchokiya on foot.
Day 3
Jodhpur to Jaisalmer via Osian
Overnight in Jaisalmer
West across the desert, stopping at Osian's eighth-century temples and a Bishnoi village on the way. Into Jaisalmer by late afternoon, in time for the fort at sunset.
Day 4
Jaisalmer, and a night on the dunes
Overnight in Jaisalmer
The fort and the havelis in the morning, then out to the Sam dunes for a camel ride, dinner and a night under canvas.
Day 5
Depart Jaisalmer
Breakfast on the sand, back into the city, and onward — by road to Jodhpur or Bikaner, or by the overnight train if you are heading further.
