Osian's dune belt runs much further than the bit you can reach on foot, and a 4x4 opens most of it. We use the jeep for the villages and the long sand tracks, then swap to camels for the final approach so the sunset happens at walking pace.
Black buck are common on this route and largely unbothered by vehicles, because the Bishnoi villages here have protected them for five centuries.
