Goa is not the Andamans and the visibility is moderate, but the water is warm, the reef at Grande is shallow and alive, and there are two accessible wrecks — including a Second World War-era vessel — which makes it a genuinely good place to dive for the first time.
PADI-certified instructors, a ratio of two students to one instructor, and a pool or shallow-water briefing before you go in. Certified divers can do two dives instead.
