Old Goa was one of the largest cities in the world in the sixteenth century and is now six churches and a grass plain, which is a considerably more interesting story than the buildings alone suggest. The Basilica holds the body of Francis Xavier; the Sé Cathedral's bell is the one that rang for the Inquisition.
We go early, before the coaches, with a guide who will tell you about the Inquisition as well as the architecture — most do not.
