The Thar is not empty. It holds villages that have worked out how to live on four inches of rain a year, and spending a morning in one of them changes how the dunes read in the afternoon. You will see a well that the village still depends on, a house built to stay cool without electricity, and whatever craft that particular family works at.
Lunch is at a home we have a long relationship with, and it is a proper meal rather than a demonstration. We pay the household directly and they set the terms of the visit, which is the only version of this that works for everybody.
