We take a longer road to a dune system well south of Khuri, where there is no camp infrastructure and no evening programme because there is no one to put one on for. The sand is lower and more sculpted than at Sam, and the tracks across it belong to desert fox and beetle.

There is a trade: you spend two more hours in the car, and there is no dinner theatre at the end. What you get instead is a sunset that is yours, which for a certain kind of traveller settles the argument.
