Jaisalmer district holds far more sand than the two dune fields everyone is driven to. We use a route between three of them, with stops at a seasonal lake bed that holds water into December and the remains of a caravanserai from when this was a trade road rather than a border.

The day is built for people who photograph. We move for light rather than for lunch, and your guide has been shooting this country for years and will tell you where to stand.
