The Bishnoi belt south and north of Jodhpur is one of the oldest conservation landscapes anywhere, kept by a community that has treated tree-felling as a sin since 1485. You will see weaving on pit looms, pots thrown for the local market, and antelope grazing within fifty metres of the road because nothing here has ever hunted them.
Lunch is in a household we have worked with for years. The dunes come afterwards, which is the right order — the sand means more once you have met the people living at its edge.
