Local Goan Food Experience
- Duration
- 4 hours
- Where
- Margao market and the villages around it
- Ideal for
- Food-led travellers
Goa's restaurant scene is mostly aimed at visitors. This walk is not — it starts in the Margao covered market with the fish, the kokum and the dried prawns, and then visits four or five places that survive on local trade.
There is a stop with a poder, the bread-seller whose horn is still how many villages know it is four o'clock, and a feni tasting with someone who distils it.
Highlights
- Margao market at its busiest
- A Saraswat vegetarian canteen and a fish curry room
- The poder's bread round
- Feni tasted with the person who distils it
